Chapter 4
The first part of chapter 4 in ‘The Internet’ focuses on how much daily life now happens through a web browser. You can keep up with current events, check the weather, look for work, or even find a house. As an older college student myself, I’m going to be using many of those job/career finding websites like LinkedIn once I finish my degree. The last part of this section goes into detail about the e-commerce side of the Internet; I side that I know very well since I am an Amazon Prime Student member and use Amazon frequently for school stuff (like textbooks or school supplies) and everyday purchase as well.
The second half of the chapter focuses on the importance of copyright and intellectual property laws in the US. It explains how long copyrights last, and the difference between copyrighted material and public domain content (both of which need to be cited). It also goes on to explain how to properly cite sources and what format you should use (MLA or APA). This section of the chapter is going to be very useful for me because I have a final project coming up in my MIS class and need to research 3 topics and present them to my Professor. With the information I learned in this chapter about citations and the different citation formats I will be able to correctly cite my sources and be able to find reputable sources for my project. Out of all the chapters we’ve gone through so far, this one feels the most relevant to what I’m doing in school right now.
